Timely Care When It Matters Most

Recently, I noticed an unusual rash. I used the virtual care program to schedule a same-day consultation with a doctor. Within hours, I was diagnosed with shingles, had a prescription sent directly to my pharmacy, and was able to start treatment right away. This quick response minimized the severity of my symptoms and likely sped up my recovery time.

On a previous occasion, I started filling out a form for a sore throat through the virtual care program. Part of the process included uploading a photo of my throat, but I got distracted and didn’t complete the form. To my surprise, I received a call from a proactive care coordinator who had noticed I hadn’t finished the process. They reached out to assist me, ensuring I got the support I needed.

What is Virtual Care?

Most virtual care programs through your health insurance provider offer 24/7 access to a variety of healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurses, dietitians, psychologists, and work-life coaches. It allows employees and their families to:

  • Address non-urgent health concerns like colds, rashes, or sinus infections.

  • Access mental health support, including confidential counseling for stress and anxiety.

  • Receive prescriptions or referrals for lab tests.

This service eliminates the need for in-person visits for many common conditions, reducing time off work and providing flexibility. It’s accessible via a secure mobile app or online portal, ensuring privacy and convenience. For those without a family doctor or facing long wait times, it’s a game-changer.

Enhancing Employee Benefits

Including virtual care as part of an employee benefits package can significantly enhance workplace wellness, especially for employees who face challenges accessing a primary care provider. It also eliminates lengthy wait times at walk-in clinics for employees and unnecessary visits to the ER for non-urgent matters, which we all know are already overburdened.   For me and my young family, this program has become our first point of contact for primary care needs.
